3 Gifts Loud
1. a little boy in my class, who will remain nameless as not to incriminate anyone. He is loud...he just is. I had his cousin in my class a few years ago and she was loud too. Yikes! But I am thankful, because it is children like this who help me make hard decisions...about life, about family, about grace, and about what it means to love someone despite the pain and frustration they cause. Isn't that what God's grace is all about?
Romans 5: 15 - But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
Matthew 8:10 - Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,[a] cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
1 Corinthians 2:12 - Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. (one of which is grace)
2. our motorcycle. I haven't gotten to ride since J was born, but I still love how cool Glen looks when he is riding and I know he's having fun.
3. the worship music that will pump from the speakers on Sunday. It will be loud and I won't be able to hear myself. It will take me to that place of surrender, that comes (sadly) so infrequently because of all the chatter and chaos of life.

Bent, Broken, Beautiful
A Gift Broken, A Gift Broken, A Gift Beautiful
bent...a fender! We are looking for a gently used truck. We found one...it had a little booboo on the front fender, but it gave us hope that there are some out there in our price range. We'll find out today if it is still available.
broken...broken grass under our feet. It means that new grass is on the way, and that it isn't too hot (or too cold) to be outside. J loves the wind and Daddy and I love just sittin' on the porch.
beautiful...time spent with my family! (ok...I know that's a little cheezy, but I am thankful for it!)

Fun Times
It seems as though we have been so busy!! Not really though. J was sick all week, so it was a bit emotionally taxing. I never think morbid thoughts when I get sick, but when she was sick this past week, I found myself worrying about ridiculous things. I'm thankful that the Lord was present to comfort me when she had fever and I am so thankful that Glen and I were able to stay with her. It's hard enough to leave her when she is feelin' fine. I'd hate to think if I had to leave her when she was sick. I'm also thankful to our neighbors who swooped in with the Motrin and electrolyte drink! Thanks again J & J! We are always thankful for their parenting expertise!

3 Gifts Hard to Give Thanks For
3 Gifts Hard to Give Thanks For
1. my job...so rewarding at times, yet so challenging at others. I'm thankful for all I have learned though.
2. our cars...sometimes I forget how blessed we are to have cars that run well. It's really easy to want new ones sometimes. It isn't about how it looks...it's all about how it works. Does it get me there? Yes!
3. the washing machine...I'm thankful I don't have to load up my laundry to take it somewhere else to get the clothes clean!!

Dull, Shimmering, Clean
Well...this is my 201st post!! I'm excited about it! Have a blessed day and be full of thanks...it's makes life fun!
A Gift Dull, A Gift Shimmering, A Gift Clean
Dull - a pecan. J and I stopped over at the neighbor's house on out walk back from the post office. One of the little girls that used to go to day care with her, K, and her Grammy were outside on the porch. We stopped to visit and K and Jaci were playing with the old pecans. What a blessing it is to witness the simple play of children.
Shimmering - my excitement about my new Teachers Pay Teachers store. I am hopeful that this will be a fun way to make a few bucks on work that I have already done. If you haven't heard about Teachers Pay Teachers or TpT, it is a great place for teachers to share their original creations with other hard working, time deprived teachers. If you are interested in selling your teaching materials CLICK HERE. All grades are included - even adult ed, university and homeschooling!
Clean - my new "cleaned up" products. I've been working hard today to polish up some of my ideas for my TpT Store. One great thing is that they are all digital downloads!! 3-D Shapes (it's FREE) and Entrepreneurship Project

Past to Future
3 Gifts From The Past - That Help You Trust the Future
1. fever passes
2. fear, when submitted gives way to faith. I have found that to be true many times before. 2 Timothy 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
3. this covenant between Glen and God and I, called marriage, gives me so much hope.

Gifts in Review
Here are my posts for this week. Looks like I did it a little differently...oh well!
Reflections and Ugly-Beautiful
February 26, 2012
3 Gifts Seen as Reflections
1. when looking back at the past, it's neat to see they way the Lord changes ones heart (if you let Him). Sometimes the reflections one makes are happy, some are regretful and othes yet to be decided. I'm thankful for the ability to look back and see how He has changed me in a few very specific areas.
2. Jaci looking in the glass on the front of the stove and giggling and wrinkling her nose at her reflection.
3. the rearview mirror. Sometimes it's nice to know what you are leaving behind. To see where you have been and know that you are on your way to something even greater!

3 Ugly-Beautiful Gifts (see beauty in ugly)
1. Last night there was a terrible fire that burned down the house of a family in our community. LJ works at the school and BJ, her son, is in my class. Fire is an ugly and terrible thing sometimes that destroys lives and homes. Thankfully their family is all safe. The gift in this is certainly not the event, but it is that our community will come together to support them and that again I heard the Lord in how to act. It will not fix all their problems, but I know that He will use the sacrifice for His glory.
2. J has an ugly cough. She has been resting for about an hour, but her sleep has been fitful due to the cough. I'm thankful though that I was able to take off of work to stay home with her and that the Dr. could see her this afternoon. In the meantime, any natural remedies are welcomed!

A Gift Worn Out, A Gift New, A Gift Made Do
A Gift Worn Out, A Gift New, A Gift Made Do
Worn Out - the soap dispenser/sponge & brush holder atop my sink. The soap dispenser doesn't work and the faux chrome is peeling off, but I'm having a hard time letting it go.
New - the stew going on the stove and the chicken in the crockpot...meals all week.
Made-Do - hand-me-down clothes for Jaci from the neighbors! I don't know if this is really made-do, becuase they are great clothes! How much money they have saved us on clothes, strollers, cups and wisdom. Thanks, Joeli!

3 Gifts Before 11am
3 Gifts Before 11am
1. I was able to get out the door a little early this morning. I hate having to be at work early because that means I don't get to spend as much time with Jaci in the morning, but it was nice to have a few more minutes to prepare for the workday.
2. A Morning Meeting funny. Well, as you may or may not have read about the un-mold-able banana nut muffin, there is more to the story. I told the students that I would bring a banana so we could watch it mold. Funny thing about bananas at our house...they always get eaten (by Jaci) or made into some delectable goody courtesy recipes from 100 Days of Real Food! I finally managed to keep one around to the yucky stage, but I didn't take it to school this morning since I was on time to get there a bit early. Here is the conversation:
Me: Okay, guys and girls, I have a banana at my house that is getting kind of yucky. So hopefully (I pause for effect and...)
AM: we can come to your house and see it!!!!
Me: uh, well, um...no, I don't think so, but I'll bring it on Monday, hopefully it will have some mold.
everyone in unison: AWWWEEE, but we want to come to your house!!!
3. racing down the hill with the kids...they scream...wind blows through us...we laugh!

Joy Dare 2/23/12
What a title...Joy Dare 2/23/12!? I thought of about 3 or 4 different ones and then gave up becuase I was thinking about it way too much! Heres a bit about the lady behind the Joy Dare.
a gift of tin...this one is really stumping me! Any ideas my bloggy friends?
a gift of glass...the pitcher from my Granny. When she died, I wasn't able to go and be with the family as they sifted through over 70 years of possessions that she and my Grandpa had collected. There are lots of things I would have taken, and a few I really wanted, but the one that I asked for that no one else wanted was the set of glasses and pitcher that she got from the feed and seed store where she worked when I was a kid. Chapman Grain...My Granny would sit in the little office and we would go in with my Dad. Scott and I got to sit on the tall, turny chair and spin and play with the office supplies. (Isn't it funny how that is fun to kids?) So this pitcher has symbols of elements and chemicals on it...not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. My Granny used to make tea in the pitcher when we went over on Sunday's for lunch after church. I always thought it was so unique! I know it isn't worth much and I'll probably never have a reason to use the glasses (I think they are for alcholic drinks...which is funny becuase I don't ever think I saw either of my grandparents drink), but it is special and a GIFT none-the-less. Each year, I get it out to display the carnations I get from my students on Valentine's Day. A fun reminder of someone I dearly loved.
a gift of wood...our TV stand! It's funny, this one, because we don't watch TV anymore and the TV is still on it and in the middle of the living room. Sometimes we watch movies, but not much. We felt convicted, for several reasons that I won't go into, that TV wasn't a neccessity in our home anymore, SO we cut the satilite and there it sits in all it's 42 inch glory, just collecting dust. I'm thankful for the stand becuase it is a reminder of conviction AND becuase my uncle made it when I moved into my first apartment after I got my first job. My dad and I sanded, and stained, and sanded and stained until it looked just right. Thanks, Dad, for the memories.

3 Gifts that Changed Today
3 Gifts that changed today
1. I got a new student today. I am thankful for what he will bring to our classroom...
...the patience it will teach us.
...the caring it will teach us.
...the way it will remind us that we all need a friend sometimes.
...the way it will point me to God's throne.
2. I'm thankful for the proverbial "winds of change." Thankful that my Father holds all things in His hands and He makes all things new.
3. Well...I'm blogging this later in the day than the previous 2...and the gift that changed is #1! I found out that our new student was actually supposed to be in Pre-K becuase he just turned 5 a month ago! This is a blessing because we were already busting at the seams. The students were sad that he isn't in our class anymore, but we know he will love it with Mrs. T. and Ms. M!

White
3 Gifts White
1. J's 4 precious teeth. I know every parent must marvel at the first few teeth. But it is just again and again amazing to me that God has ordained each one. He's so in control of even the tiniest teeth!
2. Our car. It's a 2001 Grand am that my parents help me buy after my 2nd year of college. That car has been through a lot and I'm so THANKFUL that she still runs. The dash is warped from the sun (up to this point it's never had a garage to park in), the digital clock/radio display is fading, and this funny click happens like the blinker is on (but it isn't) at random times. Still, with all the quirks, it runs and it gets us where we need it to take it and best of all IT'S PAID FOR! I can't help but send Him a little prayer of thanks every month that we don't have to make a car payment!
3. Glen's smile (I know with the teeth again....I'm a sucker for the smile)! It's one of the first things I noticed about him and every day, I'm thankful for it (but mostly him) all over again!

Joy Dare & Giveaway Reminders
We had a great weekend with family Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Can't hardly beat bonfires and relaxin'!! Hope you all (that's right all 8 of my followers) had a great weekend as well! (I think a couple of you werewith me!)
Also, I wanted to send a birthday greeting to my great Dad! He celebrated at WalMart (he got kicked out of the house due to a wedding shower my Mom was hosting) and then a first birthday party for a family friend. He's a real trooper! I love you Daddy! I'm am praying for a great blessing on your life this year!
And now...Joy Dare for today, 2/20/12
A gift at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Breakfast...well, I didn't have breakfast this morning, BUT the Lord gave me a gentle reminder at school while the kids were coming in for their breakfasts. I love it when I hear Him. He reminded me that I can have a good attitude or a bad attitude, but that I will be much more pleasant (and proud of myself at the end of the day) if I choose to have a good attitude.
Sometimes things don't go the easy way, but that doesn't mean He isn't right there with me!
Lunch...I had something to eat...I can be thankful for that right!! And a bonus...I'm getting to compose a few words here.
Dinner...making dinner with my family! I was manning (or womanning, haha) the pancake griddle, Daddy was corralling the pork, and J was playing/helping stir/seeing if whatever was hot/getting cooking lessons. What a BLAST!!!
AND another reminder, Barbara at Lactation Services of the Permian Basin is giving away a LifeNest and gift card to her shop. To be entered, you need to like her on Facebook AND tell her I sent you. (Sarah Burk sent me!) Enjoy! Here's the link to my initial post which has the link to her Facebook page. (Open until the end of Feb.)
And last but not least...if you find yourself on the page...however you got here....I'd love you have you as a follower. I don't claim to be really interesting, or really cool, I'd just love to share with you and see what you have to say!

Gifts on Paper
3 Gifts on Paper
It's funny how paperless our world is. I'm not sure I even touched a peice of paper yesterday. So, I guess I'll just make them gifts I read yesterday.
1. Read A Holy Experience and enjoyed her post about marriage and her family tradition.
2. Oh...I did read from a book yesterday! It was about Organic Gardening. I thought gardening was supposed to be easy. I'm thankful that the book has SO much good information, I'll just have to take little chunks at a time!
3. A little extra cash I made, selling somethings online. That paper with green printing is always a nice little gift before a Saturday Wal-Mart run.

Giving & Serving
3 Gifts Found in Giving/Serving
1. I gave my students a little extra time to eat their breakfasts and visit this morning. It is so fun to hear their conversations and be a part of their lives. This school year has been tumoltuous for a lot of reasons. It was so nice just to get to hang out with them a bit this morning. I have missed that in the hubub of new curriculum, mandated teaching methods and crazy disipline issues.
2. Getting to give my daughter the gift of her mother's milk has been such a rewarding (CHALLENGING at times) experience. I look back at the times I wanted to give up and again and again am glad we stuck with it.
3. Family.

2. my bag of fabric, up in the shadows of the closet. I haven't gotten it out in a while, but I know when I'm ready and there is time, great masterpeices will come forth.
3. shade...there isn't much today due to the weather, but I'm thankful for the days that will come all to soon, when the only place for relief from the heat is in the shade of a tree.

3 Ways You Feel the Love of God
1. hope in frustrating circumstances
2. I look at the past and I see all the times He should not have blessed me and did it anyway.
3. His Word.
A Gift In...
Losing Something...I think daily it is a struggle of mine to attempt to control and plan things. I want them to be just so. I doesn't happen and then anger, frustration and bitterness creep in. As I get older I think *maybe* I'm losing some of my need for the perfect control and the perfect plan. I'm learning (I'm feel pretty slow about it, but still) that my plan most often isn't THE plan AND that's a good thing.
Finding Something...frozen gumbo in the freezer! I will add some bacon and rice and that what's for dinner folks!
Making Something...the bed. Don't you agree that a made bed is so nice!?

Lactation Services of the Permian Basin
I've mention Barbara Stone at Lactation Services of the Permian Basin before! She was such a help at a rough spot for Jaci and I!! She is offering a giveaway at her store for a Lifenest and also a $25 gift certificate to her store. I would love to win the giftcard since Jaci is a little older now, but either would be wonderful. Please go to her Facebook Page and become a fan. Please post my name (ex: Sarah Burk sent me!) to let her know I sent you! She's hoping to get 250 fans by the end of the month!
Sunday
At church this morning the sermon was called "I Do." What a great message! Watch the online version HERE. It was about two becoming one and what that really means.
It was a wintery mix the entire drive home so it was so nice to come in to a warm house! Here's my Joy Dare for today:
3 Hard Eucharisteos
(Grace, Thanksgiving, Joy)
1. Grace...reminded at church this morning that I am thankful for Glen's grace toward me. Pastor Dan talked about how marriage is about God having given you a person to help you be more like Jesus. It's NOT about (or shouldn't be) this convenient wonderful person that got added to your already wonderful life and now you're all happy all the time. He gave this masterful illustration about going to a blacksmith's shop when he was younger and the man took two pieces of metal and heated them up and then put them on the anvil and went to it with the hammer. The red hot metal began to fuse together as one piece. He talked about how marriage is this way: we must be heated in the fire and then forged together. Rarely is it mentioned though in modern society that, like the metal, in order to become one in a marriage (as the Bible commands) we must be forged together in all areas and that parts of ourselves must go, like the sparks that fly off in the forging process.
2. Thanksgiving...Giving thanks that our little toilet issue is fixed. I just gotta say, no one should have the mess with that...EVER.
3. Joy...baking! I love baking for people! The baking itself isn't hard...its the cleanup afterward! :)

Laughter
3 Times You Heard Laughter Today
1. Discussing the NOT-moldy muffin in class this morning - kids and teachers alike - laughing! We had a discussion about throwing food in the trashcan after breakfast in the classroom. A few of the kids didn't know what mold was, so we decided to do an experiment. We got a breakfast muffin and I had one of the students take a bite out of it. Then we put it in a bag to ferment. Well after about two weeks...nothing. I suggest that maybe we should put it in the dark, because mold likes the dark. so we put it in one of the cabinets to rot...we thought. Two weeks later (we check it every day), still NO mold. Then Mr. BJ suggested that mold grows on food in his refrigerator, so maybe we should put it in there. Still after a week and a half...NO MOLD. All the adults in the room are baffled. Maybe all those preservatives aren't such a great thing after all. We are going to try a banana!!
2. Tripped on the trash can lid while I was replacing the bag after snack time. It was one of those big trips where you catch yourself but it might have been better if you just hit the floor because you might have pulled a muscle! Laughed out loud! Mrs. J saw but none of the kids did, so they had that funny look on their faces as if to say..."What's so funny, you two!"
3. J giggling while getting her diaper changed!! She has such a cute little laugh!

Joy Dare
February 8, 2012
1. a gift broken -
2. a gift fixed - taxes!! yea!!
3. a gift thrifted - left overs for lunch...so easy
February 9, 2010
3 gifts that were surprises - unexpected grace!
1. I woke up this morning and my alarm had NOT been set. Oh, dear! That could have been bad! Thank you Lord for waking grace and thank you for new mercies every morning! I feel like I must have used them all up by now and it's only 11:32 am. Thank you that YOU are unending, unfailing, and aware of what I need.
2. Dollar General had Lotramin...the small person at our house has a ringworm...I was thankful that we didn't have to wait until the weekend and go into Midland to find some medicine. Just went to McCamey...that means...
3. Elena's!!!!!
It's intriguing to me that I have spent a lot of time thinking about some of these. It's a weird feeling to not be able to just jump out with what I'm thankful for. I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing. Why is it so easy to find...it's almost as though you don't even have to look...to find the things that are wrong, broken, or not the way you wanted them to be?
I'll have to come back and finish later...
the yellow is later (hahaha)

Red
3 Gifts Red
1. Jesus...I know I'm not alone in this one...the Blood...oh, the crimson flood. I'm thankful that the blood that was shed for me (and all of us), the gashed side that oozed, the nailed hands, the thorn scratched head and that trickled blood into his very eyes. That blood was given freely, that I might live and be "cleansed from all unrighteousness." I know my understanding of it is elementary, but I know it even so. I owe a great debt to the Father above, who spared not even His own Son for my sake. For that I am eternally thankful!
2. A special person in our family, whose favorite color is red! She is a blessing, her prayer support and her sweet spirit. I aspire to be as joyful as she! Her laughter is infectious and her forgiveness is so admired. Could I be like her when I grow up?!
3. A healthy heart! When I was 10, I had some medical issues and my parents took such good care of me. I am thankful that I have a healthy heart these days! I'm thankful that it does it's job each day and night and thankful even more to the One who makes it so!

2. my clothes line. Glen put it up last spring and I have really enoyed it. It does something good for my soul.

Jaci - 8 months
Days 3 & 4
Joy Dare 2-3
3 Gifts Found In Writing
1. Read an article online about a woman who shares the same sentiment on an issue I am facing now. It's nice to feel like one isn't alone in her angst.
2. Got a text from Mom..."Big Lake"...it meant that they were almost here!
3. Memorial Day. The book that Glen and I are reading right now...action, suspense - FUN!!
Joy Dare 2-4
3 Gifts Found When Bent Down
I gotta say this seems strange -bent down-, but here goes...
1. my baby girl! Miss J is so precious, a true gift from my heavenly Father. He heard my petition. I love getting on the floor and playing with her. Cotton balls and paper towel rolls are lots of fun...putting the balls in the hole, blowing them out like cannon balls, telescope, megaphone, squeezing, rolling, swords!
2. This is from Friday, but I can't pass it up. My kinder kiddos... it is fun to get down and help them with their writing. It's such a gift to help them learn to read and write.
3. Got "down" and dirty with a chicken that I cooked in the crockpot! hahaha...I doubt that is what Mrs. Voskamp meant...but hey it's my joy, right! That chicken will feed us for a good few days!!
Blessings y'all!!

3 Things Overheard Today
For the Joy Dare today the prompt is 3 things overheard today.
1. Kindergarten - The code date is 2-2-12.
TH:'haha 2-2 that's like tutu'.
Me: That's right, what is a tutu?
kids: a fluffy skirt
TH: it's like a tutu you wear.
Me: T, what job does a person do if they wear a tutu?
TH: um, I don't know.
MT: the Tooth Fairy!!
We get into this long conversation about the Tooth Fairy and where she gets her money. Eventually we came to the conclusion that they Tooth Fairy works for a lady who goes to the bank and the banker gives her lots of money to give to the kids when they loose their teeth. If was firmly established that parents have no part. I asked them if maybe parents give money to the tooth fairy and every single kid YELLED "NOOOOOO!!!" The look on their faces was priceless!!
2. Mamamama...J is starting to work on my name...she's been saying many forms of Daddy's name for a while now.
3. "My legs are so sore." That statement means my man got to work out, which he hasn't gotten to do consistantly in a long time. He's happy, makes me happy!!
Joy Dare starts!
I found a website, http://www.aholyexperience.com/. I have been so blessed by this woman's insights. I had not heard of her before, but after reading a few of her blog posts, I have figured out that she is the author of a book called One Thousand Gifts. On her blog she has issued the Joy Dare. I am so needing the challenge of making my joy very obvious (to myself). So here goes...I'm sure that I will miss some days...probably a lot of them...but I want to be thankful outloud!

Baseball!!
It is a well established fact that
WE. LOVE. BASEBALL.
So it is only fitting that Miss Jaci be introduced early. We got great seats for a Rangers game next week, so we decided that we should take her on a trial run to see how she would do. We got tickets for a Rockhounds game last week. She did pretty well for about 4 innings and then she just got too tired. Starting game time was an hour before her bedtime, so she was wiped out before it really got going. Thankfully, Grandma and Grandpa can keep her for us and it's only one night. We hate to leave her out since we go every summer, but she's just not quite ready yet! Good thing is Grammy & Papa Jim got her a shirt so she can wear it and watch the game from the comfort of Grandma's lap and hopefully see us on TV!
Watching the Rockhounds/Missions game. Jaci's first time at the ballpark.
Just so tired.
My new Texas Rangers shirt.
